I saw the thumbnail, and immediately knew I was gonna see some gold. Gotta say, happy to be correct.

The character design fits very well with the art style, and I love the attitude you gave her, its a very nice mix of calm yet cool, without showing any sense of apathy.
Your work on the lighting is very impressive as well. Its very cool to see the light flash rapidly as she is welding, it helps give a sense of intensity that I really like, while not being overwhelming or conflicting with her personality.
You also have very good keyframes, the posing combined with the timing convey her actions very well, and really show what her personality is about. You have a very good grasp on how to convey a character through animation.
If this is an animation test, I can understand the lack of inbetweens, but adding a few more inbetweens here in there could really make this even better.
Lastly, this would benefit greatly from sound effects. She is listening to music, so it would add to her character even more if we heard the music she was listening to, whilst hearing the welding as well.

Outside of that, top notch animation! I really do believe you should continue 2d animation, you've got good talent and a great grasp on key posing and timing, two very essential things.

wow thank you! your words are very encouraging.

Happy birthday!

I can tell that you're probably new to animation, but I might be wrong.
The only animation is from the candle and the flickering shadow. The candle feels lifeless at the moment, it's only making small movements back and forth, and doesn't really feel like a candle. As for the shadow, I like the little detail of it flickering, but only the shadow on the wall flickers, none of the others do. It feels inconsistent. I would definitely recommend trying to study how a candle fire moves around to get a better grasp on how to animate it.

As for the composition, it feels lackluster. There is no sense of place here, it could either be inside of a building or out on the street, and the silhouettes just feel like they've been placed hap-hazardly, with no reason. I would definitely recommend trying to look into what makes good composition, stuff like the rule of thirds, and also looking at photographs or other drawings of birthday parties can help give you an understanding of what gives good composition.

Sorry for being so harsh here, but I do think that your art-style and character design are somewhat cute, and I think that you do have potential to be a great artist

TheMineroxl responds:

no problem, and thank you

I really love this film!

The dialogue is absolutely charming, and if this was just some audio you recorded on the spot with a friend, that makes it even better. The editing is absolutely wonderful, and some of these shots really go hard as fuck. The music gives this a dream-like feeling that feels almost romantical in a way, it really does enhance the mood and makes this really comforting to watch.

While I am not the biggest fan of this art style, I do find it pretty cute, but sometimes the proportions feels all wonky and make the characters look like they are deformed in some way. I can understand that there was a deadline, because the animation is very rough in a lot of scenes, but I genuinely commend the fact that you were able to put in more emphasis on composition rather than movements, because your understanding of composition really does carry a lot of the art in here, and it's very impressive and expressive.

Overall, this is a really good film =]

Thank you so much ! The dialogue is real yes I have about 4 more hours worth of rambling haha ! I really appreciate this comment so much ! Thank you for taking the time to give such in-depth feedback !! The animation definitely got left behind at some parts due to the deadline haha, thank you again !!

you've got a good grasp on how to make 3D animations. the movements here are simple, but effective, and it's really hard to tell that this was made by a beginning animator. i also love the 4:3 and compressed audio, it really makes this feel old and grimy, but in a good way

YoshTheAxolotl responds:

thanks!

watching this made me think that i should probably use Newgrounds more, because i don't know how i haven't discovered you before.

seriously, this is some really good animation, keep it up!

J-AlanBaker responds:

Thanks :D

i remember loving this show back in the day, it sucks that they cancelled it before they could make a proper ending.

psitaccus responds:

Yeah, it was definitely a dark day in tv history. Too bad we'll never learn how the divorce subplot would've ended.

this looks like something Ralph Bakshi would make

Nalgotico responds:

Thanks a lot dude, Mr. Bakshi is one of my favourite animators, you literally made my day

looks pretty good, but you could've used a bit more anticipation

Nalgotico responds:

Yeah, my animation teacher told me that not long ago. Thanks for the feedback!

i love it, incredibly original animation with a good sense of humour, and pretty good animation quality
however, character proportions do look a bit rough from time to time, and you could've used a bit of squash and stretch

BenedictTerry responds:

Alright, then. Thanks for that!

this made me laugh a lot, the humour is pure genius, and is too good
though, the proportions do look a bit rough on Dr. Bill, and a few more inbetweens could've been used with certain movements

wearethetelevision responds:

Thank you! And yeah, you're not wrong. Looking backing at it, definitely could have used some more in-betweens. Thanks for the watching!
